The Dogo Argentino was developed in Argentina in the 20th century, primarily through the work of Dr. Antonio Nores Martínez, who sought to create a courageous, athletic dog capable of working as a pack hunter of large game while also having the temperament to live closely with people.

That history helps explain the combination found in the breed today: strength, stamina, determination, intelligence, and confidence packed into one remarkably athletic dog. A Dogo was bred to have a job and take that job seriously.

But Dogo families know that the formidable appearance is only part of the story. These dogs can form incredibly strong bonds with their people and may be affectionate, playful, and happiest when they're included in family life.

This large, muscular athlete may decide that sitting beside you creates an entirely unacceptable amount of separation. Leaning their full body weight against you is obviously better.
