Developed in England during the 19th century, Bullmastiffs were created by crossing Mastiff-type dogs with Bulldogs to help gamekeepers protect large estates from poachers. Their job required strength, courage, intelligence, and the ability to work quietly — stopping an intruder rather than simply chasing them away.

That guardian heritage is still reflected in the breed's confident and watchful nature, but Bullmastiffs are also known for forming strong bonds with their families. They can be calm, affectionate companions that prefer being close to the people they love — and with a Bullmastiff, “close” can mean approximately zero inches of personal space. 😂❤️

Despite their impressive size, many Bullmastiffs have a wonderfully gentle and sometimes downright goofy side. There's something particularly funny about watching a dog built like a small tank suddenly become dramatic because their human stopped petting them.
