Developed in the Brittany region of France, these talented sporting dogs became known for their ability to point and retrieve game while working closely with their handlers. Their history required intelligence, stamina, agility, and an eagerness to work — traits that are still very much a part of the Brittany personality today.

And Brittanys generally aren't interested in experiencing life from the sidelines. Whether they're running, exploring, playing, following an interesting scent, or joining their humans on the next adventure, they tend to approach activities with plenty of enthusiasm. If there's something happening, the Brittany would like to be included. 😂

But underneath all that athletic energy is an affectionate and people-oriented companion. Brittanys are known for forming close bonds with their families, and that sensitivity and devotion can make them wonderfully loving dogs. After spending the day racing through the outdoors, many are perfectly happy to switch jobs and become professional family companions.

They're also sometimes still called Brittany Spaniels, although the breed's official name in the United States was shortened to simply Brittany because their hunting style is more similar to pointing breeds than traditional flushing spaniels. For the families who love them, of course, they're usually just the energetic orange-and-white shadow who somehow knows when an outdoor adventure is about to happen. ❤️
